Early birthday gift for X Factor singer

GYMPIE country singer Caitlyn Shadbolt barely left the X Factor stage after Monday night's live result before ringing home.

The singer, flushed with excitement, had just secured a place in the top five contestants.

After two weeks in the bottom two and singing for her place in the competition, Caitlyn could not believe the sudden turnaround.

And with her 19th birthday this Saturday, the early gift was pitch-perfect.

The competition was turned on its head with favourite Reigan Derry joining Jason Heerah in the bottom two before a judges' deadlock returned the decision to the Australian public.

It was Jason who left the show in good spirits despite the obvious disappointment.

Caitlyn's call home was first missed owing to her father's phone being on silent. The X Factor star left a message her mother Helen was still trying to understand yesterday.

"We played the message four or so times but we couldn't understand what she was saying, she was so excited," Helen said.

Caitlyn did eventually get through to her family and calmed down enough for her family to understand her.

"She was bloody excited," Helen said. "She kept asking, 'How did that happen?' and just could not believe it."

Caitlyn hoped for the best before Monday's live show but prepared for the worst, packing one of her bags.

"She was ready to leave before the show," Helen said.

"But now we have another week and I think she is in a better place now with this boost to her confidence."

Caitlyn's reaction to hearing she was safe amused her family.

"We taped the show and we have watched Caitlyn's reaction half-a-dozen times," Helen said. "She just looked gobsmacked with Ronan up there."

Helen believes the result is proof voting makes a difference, regardless of who appears to be a frontrunner on the show.

"You just can't take anything for granted," she said.

X Factor contestants perform two songs this Sunday in a show promising to stretch the remaining contestants beyond their comfort zones.

Should Caitlyn make the top three, judge and mentor Ronan Keating will visit Gympie.

Rachel n’a que 14 ans mais sa reprise de « Please Don’t Say You Love Me » de Gabrielle Aplin a subjugué le jury de l’émission X Factor, en Australie.


L’adolescente, à la guitare, a réalisé une superbe prestation, pleine d’émotion, qui lui a permis d’accéder à la phase suivante de qualifications. Il faut dire que dès les premières notes, la jeune fille a ébahi les jurés, tels Ronan Keating ou Redfoo des LMFAO. Même le public a applaudi à tout rompre la jeune demoiselle...
