On Raglan Road on an autumn day I saw her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue; I saw the danger, yet I passed along the enchanted way, And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day. On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge, The Queen of Hearts still making tarts and I not making hay Oh I loved too much and by such by such is happiness thrown away. I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known To the artists who have known the true gods of sound and stone And word and tint without stint for I gave her poems to say. With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds over fields of May On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking now Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow That I had loved not as I should a creature made of clay When the angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day.
We were born before the wind Also younger than the sun Ere the bonnie boat was won As we sailed into the mystic
Hark now, hear the sailors cry Smell the sea and feel the sky Let your soul and spirit fly Into the mystic
Yeah, when that fog horn blows I will be coming home Yeah, when that fog horn whistle blows I wanna hear it I don't have to fear it
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old And magnificently we will float Into the mystic
When that fog horn blows You know I will be coming home Yeah, when that fog horn whistle blows I gotta hear it I don't have to fear it
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul Just like way back in the days of old And together we will float Into the mystic
Come on, girl It's too late to stop now
I want to run, I want to hide I wanna tear down the walls that hold me inside I want to reach out and touch the flame Where the streets have no name
I wanna feel sunlight on my face I see the dust cloud disappear without a trace I wanna take shelter from the poison rain Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name Where the streets have no name Still building and burning down love Burning down love And when I go there, I go there with you It's all I can do
The city's a flood And our love turns to rust We're beaten and blown by the wind Trampled in dust
I'll show you a place High on the desert plain Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name Where the streets have no name Still building and burning down love Burning down love And when I go there, I go there with you It's all I can do
Our love turns to rust We're beaten and blown by the wind Blown by the wind Oh, and I see love Our love turn to rust We're beaten and blown by the wind Blown by the wind Oh, when I go there I go there with you It's all I can do
They say the skies of Lebanon are burning Those mighty cedars bleeding in the heat They're showing pictures on the television Women and children dying in the street
And we're still at it in our own place Still trying to reach the future through the past Still trying to carve tomorrow from a tombstone
But hey, don't listen to meThis wasn't meant to be no sad song We've heard too much of that before Right now I only want to be here with you Till the morning dew comes falling
I wanna take you to the island And trace your footprints in the sand And in the evening when the sun goes down We'll make love to the sound of the ocean
They're raising banners over by the markets Whitewashing slogans on the shipyard walls Witchdoctors praying for a mighty showdown No way our holy flag is gonna fall
Up here we sacrifice our children To feed the worn-out dreams of yesterday And teach them dying will lead us into glory
Now I know us plain folks don't see all the story And I know this peace and love's just copping out And I guess these young boys dying in the ditches Is just what being free is all about
And how this twisted wreckage down on main street Will bring us all together in the end And we'll go marching down the road to freedom Freedom
I am a sailor, you're my first mate We signed on together, we coupled our fate Hauled up the anchor, determined not to fail For the heart's treasure, together we set sail
With no maps to guide us, we steered our own course Rode out the storms when the winds were gale force We sat out the doldrums in patience and hope Working together, we learned how to cope
Life is an ocean and love is a boat In troubled waters that keeps us afloat When we started the voyage, there was just me and you Now, gathered 'round us, we have our own crew
Together we're in this relationship Built it with care to last the whole trip Our true destination's not marked on any charts We're navigating to the shores of the heart
Life is an ocean and love is a boat In troubled waters that keeps us afloat When we started the voyage, there was just me and you Now, gathered 'round us, we have our own crew
Life is an ocean and love is a boat In troubled waters that keeps us afloat When we started the voyage, there was just me and you Now, gathered 'round us Now, gathered 'round us Now, gathered 'round us We have our own crew
Take me away from the city And lead me to where I can be on my own I wanted to see it, and now that I have I want just to be left alone I'll always remember your kind words And I'll still remember your name But I've seen you changing and turning And I know that things won't be the same
I remember that summer in Dublin And the Liffey as it stank like hell And the young people walking on Grafton street And everyone looking so well I was singing a song I heard somewhere Called "Rock 'N 'Roll Never Forgets" When my humming was smothered by a 46A And the scream of a low-flying jet So, I jumped on a bus to Dún Laoghaire Stoppin' off to pick up my guitar And a drunk on the bus told me how to get rich I was glad we weren't going too far
So, I'm leaving on Wednesday morning Trying to find a place where I can hear The wind and the birds and the sea on the rocks Where open roads always are near And if sometimes I tire of the quiet And I want to walk back up that hill I'll just get on the road and I'll stick out my thumb And I know for sure you'll be there still
I remember that summer in Dublin And the Liffey as it stank like hell And the young people walking on Grafton street And everyone looking so well I was singing a song I heard somewhere Called "Rock 'N 'Roll Never Forgets" When my humming was smothered by a 32B And the scream of a low-flying jet So, I jumped on a bus to Dún Laoghaire Stopping off to pick up my guitar And a drunk on the bus told me how to get rich I was glad we weren't going too far
And I remember that summer in Dublin I remember that summer in Dublin
Well, the road is wide Water runs on either side And my shadow in the fading light Is stretching out towards the night 'Cause the sun is low And I, yet, have still so far to go My lonely heart is beating so Tired of the wonder There's a sign ahead Though I think it's the same one again But I'm thinking 'bout my only friend So, I find my way home
When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light
Well, the air is cold Yonder lies my sleeping soul By the branches, broke like bones This weakened tree no longer holds Well, the night is still And I have not yet lost my will Oh, and I will keep on moving till Until I find my way home
When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light
When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light
So, lead me on, lead me strong like the road I walk on (When I need to get home, you're my guiding light, you're my guiding light) So, lead me on, lead me strong like this road I walk on (When I need to get home, you're my guiding light, you're my guiding light)
When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light When I need to get home You're my guiding light, you're my guiding light
If life is a river and your heart is a boat Just like a water baby, baby, born to float If life is a wild wind that blows way on high And your heart is Amelia dying to fly
Heaven knows no frontiers And I've seen Heaven in your eyes
And if life is a bar room in which we must wait 'Round the man with his fingers on the ivory gates Where we sing until dawn of our fears and our fates And we stack all the dead men in self-addressed crates
In your eyes Faint as the singing of a lark That somehow this black night Feels warmer for the spark Warmer for the spark To hold us till the day When fear will lose its grip And Heaven has its way
Heaven knows no frontiers And I've seen Heaven in your eyes
If your life is a rough bed of brambles and nails And your spirit's a slave to man's whips and man's jails Where you thirst and you hunger for justice and right Then your heart is a pure flame of man's constant night
In your eyes Faint as the singing of a lark That somehow this black night Feels warmer for the spark Warmer for the spark To hold us till the day When fear will lose its grip And Heaven has its way
Heaven knows no frontiers I've seen Heaven in your eyes
Heaven knows no frontiers I've seen Heaven in your eyes In your eyes
And so it is Just like you said it would be Life goes easy on me Most of the time And so it is The shorter story No love, no glory No hero in her sky
I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes
And so it is Just like you said it should be We'll both forget the breeze Most of the time And so it is The colder water The blower's daughter The pupil in denial
I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes off of you I can't take my eyes
Did I say that I loathe you? Did I say that I wanted to Leave it all behind?
I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off of you I can't take my mind off you I can't take my mind My mind Until I find somebody new
Of all the money that e'er I had I have spent it in good company Oh and all the harm I've ever done Alas, it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of with To memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had They're sorry for my going away And of all the sweethearts that e'er I had They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot That I should rise and you should not I'll gently rise and I'll softly call Good night and joy be with you all
But as it falls unto my lot That I must go and you should not I'll gently rise and softly call Good night and joy be with you all
For the sun, for the light For the ride and for the masters Oh we come, to be kind To be warm here and after We've been out, but we're back Because we're graced in these matters And we'll rise
And we did a little love, but we walked We make a sound for the messed up Make a little call To the right, to the ball And to the mast-top And we
We fool around now and again We're looking good But just as friends
This is our heyday baby We're not gonna be afraid to shout 'Cause we can make our heyday last forever Ain't that what it's all about Oh living, in our own terrible way
And we lack a little love But a sign, a sign to get a little messed up Picking up the rules For the chimes making up minds And making it last us 'Cause we live alone, and now we've grown And we know what we're after And we'll rise
We fool around now and again We're looking good But just as friends
This is our heyday baby We're not gonna be afraid to shout 'Cause we can make our heyday last forever And ain't that what it's all about
We fool around now and again We're looking good But just as friends
So we have ourself a break And when we're done And we come to our senses And we'll rise And we'll rise
This is our heyday baby This is our heyday baby This is our heyday baby Ain't that what it's all about Oh living, in our own terrible way In our own terrible way This is our heyday baby
I guess at the start it was just a thing And I woke waiting for the phone to ring Hello, hello
My day began and you gonna bet I can't get you out of my head At all, at all
We never changed Through the years Never give in To those fears
We didn't give up Even with doubt Climbing over walls that we built We don't have to tear them down
Love is a home These walls keep us warm Even in the eye of the storm I know we're unbreakable
Love set in stone
Everybody said what will be will be But you said get on a plane to me Come on
You wait around for the hand of fate But I needed you, I couldn't wait At all, at all
We never changed Through the years Never give in To those fears
We didn't give up Even with doubt Climbing over walls that we built We don't have to tear them down
Love is a home These walls keep us warm Even in the eye of the storm I know we're unbreakable
Love set in stone
What might have been If we let go I thank my lucky stars That we'll never know
We didn't give up Even with doubt Climbing over walls that we built We don't have to tear them down
Love is a home These walls keep me warm Even in the eye of the storm I know we're unbreakable
Love set in stone
I guess at the start it was just a thing And I woke waiting for the phone to ring Hello
