“It took me six years to figure out what I wanted to do musically, who I was as an artist,” says Keating.
“Then 18 months ago, a light bulb went off. I made my decision: I was going to go back to my roots and make a pop record. And it happened very easily then, once I’ve made my decision.”

“So it’s just pop music,” the singer says simply. “Just turn the radio on and sing along … You’re reliving your youth again, through pop music.”
For Keating, creating this album was also therapeutic: “I needed optimism, I needed hope. When you’ve caused a lot of pain and hurt in people’s lives, you know that, you feel you’re at rock bottom, you feel pretty worthless. You need hope, optimism to get you out of those “holes”. It was friendship that definitely got me through it.”
“People were there for me when I needed help, when I was at my lowest, so I hope that this album can do the same for them.”
The title track, “Fires” is also Keating’s way of saying “thank you” to his “real friends, for sticking and standing by me. Even in the face of shame.”



When you realize you’ve made a mistake
He exerts that he has been remorseful, but we’re not sure if the world is ready to forgive him yet.
Responses to his album have barely been a careless whisper on the charts and critics ignited the rationality of a career comeback.

Fires will be released in early September and the feedback already from music industry insiders has been overwhelmingly positive

This is my first studio album in six years, so this is quite a big deal for me," he said. "I'm putting myself out there. It has been a while. I didn't feel I was ready for a studio album.
"I had writer's block, so I took my time. And then the time came when I felt I was ready, I started writing again. It's an anthemic pop album, it's not ballad-driven."

I haven't started writing songs because it's not fair on anyone involved.
 I have just let myself go (with the music).
I'm not using any material that would be harmful or upsetting to anyone."
You have to have tough skin. The people who love you, that's what matters."

Ronan made his film debut in Goddess this year, a romantic comedy shot on location in New South Wales. And movie project number two is well advanced, but again is a new departure.

"It's called Rockpool and we begin shooting early next year after the tour. The cast is amazing. I can't say who is in it, but a very high profile female will play my wife in the film. It's a great script, it's hardcore and it's dark. A lot of people would cast me maybe in a love story or what have you, but it's not like that


2013 will be a busy year for Keating, between his X Factor commitments in Australia, a solo tour, the new movie and the Boyzone 20 year anniversary tour.

"It's going to be brilliant! I love it in Australia. They are great people and the show is fantastic. It's a pity it's so far away!


 Please God it will be a big year for Boyzone. We're aiming to tour and make a record. Everybody is up for it."

The album is back to proper pop again', Keating said. 'I've been working with the guys behind Life Is A Rollercoaster again.

'I've been spending my time getting this album just right and I'm excited about people hearing it.'

The singer revealed that his marital difficulties had left him with writer's block, which he had to break down to write material for his new solo album, due out in August.

However, he denied the new record would be made up of break-up songs.

"Perhaps subconsciously it could happen but I'm not sitting there making an album with anger or pain or angst in that sense of what's happening in my life over the last year or two.

I have had a few years of not really being able to put pen to paper, so it's nice to let go and just write and it feels good to me.
